(Ramsey, MN) — The future and the past came together at Connexus Energy’s Annual Meeting held on April 11, 2018, in Ramsey.
“Welcome to a new energy future – your way” was the main message from Connexus Energy CEO Greg Ridderbusch to members attending the meeting. Connexus reported strong 2017 results covering its financials, electric operations, and member service accomplishments. “Our new AMI meter project, scheduled for completion this year, also enables new ways for members to save. In the new energy future, members tell us how they want us to communicate with them, how they want to pay their bill, and customize their participation in energy efficiency and renewable energy programs.”
Connexus also revealed plans for the 2018 completion of grid scale solar plus integrated battery storage on sites totaling about 60 acres. “This is a milestone project that sets a regional precedent to better integrate and gain more value from renewable resources,” added Ridderbusch.
Chief Financial Officer Mike Bash reported strong financials and the good news of no rate increase for members this year. “We are able to do this because we work hard to keep operating costs low. In fact, Connexus has the third most efficient distribution plant out of all the electric cooperatives in the country.”
Board Chair Peter Wojciechowski reflected on the cooperative’s 80-year history. “Since the very beginning, we have always done what’s right for our members. Our cooperative has built upon the legacy of providing reliable power at an affordable price to our members since the very beginning.”
Featured keynote speaker Ellen Anderson, Director of the Energy Transition Lab at the University of Minnesota, shared perspectives on Minnesota’s leadership in renewable energy and noted the benefit in new energy jobs in the state. The Energy Transition Lab has provided key policy leadership in battery and energy storage. Anderson encouraged Connexus to keep on innovating, and referred to the cooperative’s battery and storage plans as a nation-leading project.
In the Board of Directors’ election, incumbents Fran Bator, Mark Ethen, and Gordon Westerlind were re-elected to the board. Connexus also announced that Fran Bator succeeds Peter Wojciechowski as Board Chair. Said Fran Bator, “the Board is very appreciative of Peter’s leadership and unique passion for the cooperative model. His candor and commitment to the Connexus membership are the underlying motivations for his service. For 22 years he has led this board in making many difficult decisions to best serve our membership and has positioned Connexus well for the future.”
