“During my career in commercial banking, virtually every day has involved reviewing, analyzing, and making judgments on business operations from financial statement information. This is a core competency I have brought to every board I have served, including my time on the Connexus Board.
As a commercial banker, I work with business customers served by Connexus. Combined with over 20 years as a residential member, I have a unique perspective to serve on the Connexus Board as I understand issues from the perspective of both residential and business members.”
“Metering technology advances in the utility industry and specifically at Connexus will provide a strong gateway for business opportunities. Information available via new metering technology installed on the Connexus system will allow for efficiencies that have not even been considered at this point in time. Furthermore, the availability of this new information will put Connexus and all utilities that have it in position to capitalize on market signals to a level they never have before.
Another major opportunity exists in energy storage. Either combined with distributed generation sources or without, storage has the potential to revolutionize the energy business, and the cost of storage has become more economical. It is not impossible to imagine the day when the margin between peaking rates and off peak rates is substantially narrowed.”

“My 24 years of experience working in the energy utility industry in all areas of generation, transmission, and distribution, positions me well to continue working on behalf of Connexus Energy members. I have demonstrated experience in strategic planning, and have a solid background in the financial aspects of the business. Because of the respect of my fellow directors, I was elected board chair of the Minnesota Rural Electric Association, and also elected to serve on the Great River Energy board. Active participation in these two boards has provided me the opportunity to not only influence strategy, services, and operational direction on a statewide basis but also allows me to see how other local and regional cooperatives deal with their challenges, some of which are very applicable and transferable to Connexus Energy.”
“Rapid and meaningful changes in the electric utility industry provide many opportunities. As we embrace these changes, we can provide new value and choices for our members. The implementation of automated meter technology and Wi-Fi thermostats will be tools our membership can utilize to control usage which impacts their bills.
Secondly, as new power generation methods are developed and advanced, Connexus can continue to analyze and implement those methods which offer value to our membership and enhance the reliability and affordability of energy.”

“Serving as a Connexus board member is an honor that carries a big responsibility. As a young man teaching school or managing the agronomy department at our local cooperative, I learned to help others meet their goals. My lifetime of service as an officer and board member of three farm supply co-ops and a community bank, has taught me to deal with the government, employees, finances, and even the weather. My wife and I have shared the responsibility for operating our fourth generation family farm near Crown, Minnesota. We raise and deliver hay for horses. My experience with these dynamic, successful business, has taught me how to keep Connexus Energy a successful business that responds to our community’s needs. I want to continue this tradition of representing our neighborhood. Please accept my pledge to keep Connexus Energy a strong, focused, and efficient cooperative.”
“Member satisfaction survey tell us that customers are receiving reliable service at competitive rates. Connexus Energy has a well trained and motivated employee group. As a board of directors we can be confident that they are able to implement new technology. Our challenge as a board is to find new ideas that can best be applied to improving our efficiency and reliability.
The electric utility industry has delivered renewable energy systems at a rapid pace. At this point many of these energy sources are more expensive when compared to traditional rates. We must continue to evaluate opportunities that best serve our members.”
