Understanding Your Bill
As an electric distribution cooperative, Connexus Energy purchases power from Great River Energy (GRE) and delivers it to your home.
Your typical electric bill is broken down into three components:
- Cost of Basic Service
That’s $9.50 per month for most of our residential members. It covers the cost of providing safe, reliable electric service.
- Residential Energy Charge
This is the charge based on the amount of electricity you use, and is measured in kilowatt hours.
- Power Cost Adjustment (PCA)
We use the PCA to handle the normal monthly fluctuations in the price of wholesale power. Depending on wholesale power prices,
it is either set at zero or as a surcharge or a credit. It reflects the changes in the cost of fuel and purchased wholesale power since the rates were set.

Energy Terms
The price you pay for electricity includes costs for power generation, transmission, and distribution. On average, about 75% of the rates
you pay comes from purchasing power and transmission while 25% is to deliver it to your home or business via the Connexus distribution system.
