Hope 4 Youth Providing shelter to homeless youth in Anoka County

Community Investment Where the donation dollars come fromAs an electric cooperative, we often get asked where the money comes from for community donations. The majority of the donation dollars come from our Cash Back program, more specifically, unclaimed Cash Back payments.

When you move into our service area, you are not only a customer, you’re also a member. We return any profits earned to our members annually in the form of Cash Back. When members move away, we continue to send them their Cash Back. If we don’t have a correct forwarding address, or for whatever reason we can’t locate former members, we are required to hold that money for seven years. After that time, under Minnesota law, any unclaimed Cash Back funds must be donated to the community.

We believe in supporting our communities. We want this money to stay right here
close to home, benefitting us all.
